If the preview is black but no error appears, another app probably holds the camera — close Zoom/Teams/OBS and retry. If the browser says access is denied, click the camera icon in the address bar to re-allow it. A low measured FPS usually means poor lighting: webcams stretch exposure time in dim rooms, halving their frame rate — face a window or lamp and watch the number recover. The mirror toggle only flips your preview; meeting apps always show others the unmirrored view, which is why text on your shirt looks reversed to you but correct to everyone else.
